Bulgarian Love is Folly to screen ‘Everybody Knows’

The 27th edition of the International Film Festival Love is Folly in Bulgaria has scheduled to screen ‘Everybody Knows’ directed by Iranian filmmaker Asghar Farhadi.

The 133-minute film by Iranian Oscar-winning director has been shot entirely in Spanish language on the Iberian Peninsula.

It is about Laura who lives with her husband and children in Buenos Aires. When they return together at her native village in Spain for a family celebration, an unexpected event changes the course of their lives.

Penelope Cruz, Javier Bardem, Ricardo Darin, Eduard Fernandez, Barbara Lennie, Inma Cuesta, Elvira Minguez, and Ramon Barea are among the cast.

‘Everybody Knows’ is Farhadi’s second film shot outside Iran. In 2012, he directed ‘The Past’ in French language in Paris. ‘The Past’ brought its star, Berenice Bejo, the Palme d’Or for best actress in 2013.

The film has so far experienced several global film events, including the 71st Cannes Film Festival in France, the 36th Munich International Film festival in Germany, the 2018 Golden Apricot Film Festival in Armenia, the 2018 Toronto Film Festival in Canada, the 66th Melbourne International Film Festival in Australia, the 55th Antalya Film Festival in Turkey, the 25th Austin Film Festival in the US, the 2018 Lumière Film Festival in France, and the CineIran (Iranian Film Festival) in Canada.

‘Everybody Knows’ opened the 2018 International Film Festival of Kerala in India and has been nominated for eight awards at the 2019 Goya Awards and six awards at the 6th Feroz Awards in Spain.

It was ranked among the 10 highest-grossing Spanish films in 2018 and The Guardian selected it as one of the best films this year released in the UK.

Launched in 1993, the International Film Festival Love is Folly is a competitive event that features selected films produced during the last two years dealing with the subject of love.

For years Love is Folly was the only international film festival, taking place in Bulgaria and until recently - the only one with feature film contest.

To kick off on August 23 in Varna, Bulgaria, the event's 27th edition is slated to wrap up on September 1, 2019.
